Founded in 2001 as an independent affiliate of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Institute serves primarily to engage the public sector in support of Latino educational achievement. Working closely with federal agencies, the Institute has awarded over 500 scholarships totaling than $1.5 million. Among its most successful programs has been the Next Generation of Public Servants initiative, which was designed to increase the proportion of Latinos in the federal workforce through the offer of scholarships and training programs in several federal departments and agencies.
